Media options depend largely on the subject matter. A cinematography, music, or visual arts course would require more multimedia options than a course on history, psychology, or business. Regardless, some course materials will invariably be in textual format no matter what the subject and so several resources would be ideal for the dissemination of text-based course material.
First, a course syllabus can be created in HTML to allow students to access assignment information and linked course readings from any computer. Distance learning courses must be created with as much online, Web-based resources as possible to encourage maximum student learning, interactivity, and participation in the course. Second, I would ensure that as many course readings were accessible online on reputable Web sites or scholarly databases students have access to through the university. Each unit will have its own Web page, linked together through a well designed, easy-to-navigate system. If budget is not a problem, I would hire a quality Web designer to aid in the development of the course site.
Third, I would upload any and all multimedia content to the course Web site. Multimedia content is helpful for any course because it allows students who are not primarily verbal learners to appreciate course content. Audio files, images, and videos can accompany almost any unit in the ten-unit project. Disabled students such as those who are visually impaired could benefit from audio files and I would create more robust audio files if any student asked for it.
Finally, I would make sure to create a parallel downloadable file in PowerPoint or similar presentation software so that students can review course materials while away from an Internet connection. Students who do not have computers available to them 24 hours a day cannot be expected to access materials at any time and will need to download numerous files for later review. I would consider creating files in PDA/handheld-friendly formats for easy access.

The war is global -- and is
